Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 8830 Ledge Street about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday (July 24).
The suspect, Juan J. Mares-Chaves, 57, is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court. A booking photo of Mares-Chaves is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased woman, 57, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and G. Rangel reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a residence at the above address and found an unresponsive woman with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the driveway. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased.
A male suspect, identified as Mares-Chaves, remained at the scene and told officers he shot his wife after an argument with her. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Mares-Chaves was subsequently charged. Mares-Chaves was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
