Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the shooting of two men at 2000 Oakdale Street about 2:55 a.m. on March 24.
The suspect, Charles Dee Strain III, 35, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 482nd State District Court. A December 2020 booking photo of Strain, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
The male victims, 37 and 32, were transported to an area hospital in stable conditions.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives V. Garcia and V. Gamez reported:
HPD patrol officers were flagged down by a person to check on a vehicle stopped near State Highway 288 and North MacGregor Way. Officers observed the driver and his passenger with gunshot wounds. Both men stated they were shot at the intersection of Oakdale Street and Almeda Road.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the men to the hospital.
A preliminary investigation determined an unknown suspect shot the men as they stopped at a stop sign. The suspect then fled on foot. The motive in the shooting was not known.
Further investigation, witness statements and evidence from the scene identified Strain as the shooter. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Strain was subsequently charged. He remains at large.
