A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 5470 Braesvalley Drive about 6 p.m. on May 28 is in custody.
The suspect, Jomaal Xavierous Carroll, 19, is charged with murder in the 208th State District Court. A booking photo of Carroll is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Roland Dewayne Vessel, 23.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn and Detective S. Chettry reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the above address and found the victim, later identified as Mr. Vessel, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Investigators learned Vessel and the suspect were involved in an argument prior to the shooting. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
The following day (May 29), investigators released surveillance video of the unknown suspect. Further investigation identified him as Jomaal Carroll. On June 11, charges were filed on Carroll and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Surveillance photos of Carroll were released on June 14.
Subsequent investigation developed information on Carroll’s whereabouts. On Thursday (June 20), he was arrested by officers with the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force without incident. Carroll was booked into the Harris County Jail.
