Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a juvenile male found after a fire was extinguished at 3027 Friar Point Road about 4:15 p.m. on Saturday (June 15).
The identity of the victim, 7, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective K. Amri reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a request for assistance from Houston Fire Department emergency personnel to a residential fire at the above address. HFD personnel entered the residence and found am unresponsive juvenile in the residence. HFD paramedics pronounced the child deceased.
A preliminary investigation indicated a mother, grandmother and four children were in the residence at the time of the fire. Two of the children were playing with a wooden stick on the stove, which they then took to the bedroom and inadvertently started a fire. The mother attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful.
The investigation is continuing.
