Apartment Fire in The Park Place Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: May 15, 2024, at 6:25 p.m.

WHERE: 8301 Park Place Blvd. 77017.

INJURIES: Two civilians and one firefighter transported to the hospital.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $120,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the second-floor windows of a 2-story apartment building.  With a report of a trapped individual, they conducted a primary search and controlled the utilities. The crews encountered heavy smoke and forced entry to ensure there were no victims. They made an attack on the fire and requested additional manpower. CenterPoint was also requested.

Firefighters rotated until the fire was fully extinguished and all hotspots were fully out. One civilian was transported to the hospital after falling from the second floor, and a second civilian was transported to the hospital for chest pain. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a possible sprained ankle.

Six units were left without power, and two units suffered moderate to major damage. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents.  HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 60 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 23, 40, 36, 20, 26, 29, 42, 18, 24 and Rescue 42.
