Houston police are investigating the suicide of a male in the presence of officers at 2300 Hutton Street about 1:05 p.m. last Friday (May 3).
The identity of the male, 55, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
No officers discharged a weapon in the incident.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant D. Lane and Detectives N. Arellano, J. Montalvo and W. Elliott reported:
The male and his boyfriend had a verbal altercation inside their residence at the above address, at which time the male produced a handgun and discharged one round inside the residence. The male’s boyfriend then called 911 as the male started to leave the location in a vehicle. As patrol officers were arriving on scene, they observed the male attempting to leave in a blue vehicle, which matched the information given to officers while they were en route to the scene. After exiting their patrol vehicle, the officers attempted to make verbal contact with the male. Almost immediately, officers heard a gunshot coming from inside the male’s vehicle and realized the male shot himself. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased.
As is customary when there is a death of a person in the presence of officers, the incident is classified as an in-custody death, and is investigated by the Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
