Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash at 1300 Lockwood Drive about 9:15 p.m. on March 1, 2020.
The suspect, Norman R. Randell, 22, is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court. A booking photo of Randell is attached to this news release.
The male victim is identified as Miguel Aguila, 51.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Brown and M. Condon reported:
Mr. Aguila observed his white Ford F-250 pickup truck being stolen. He and two witnesses got into another vehicle and began to pursue the suspects. Aguila caught up to the suspects at the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Market Street and approached the F-250 on the driver’s side.
The suspect (driver) began to drive off as Aguila was holding on to the truck. The suspect then drove south on Lockwood, made a U-turn on San Juan Street and drove north on Lockwood. In the 1300 block of Lockwood, the suspect drove off the roadway and into a cemetery. At that point, Aguila fell off the truck and was fatally injured. The truck continued north on Lockwood and crashed at the intersection of the East Freeway service road. Three people – including the suspect (driver) – in the F-250 fled on foot.
Further investigation by HPD homicide detectives identified Randell as the suspect in this case. On March 8, 2024, members of HPD’s Northeast Crime Suppression Team arrested Randell and he was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.
