Investigation into Fatal Crash at 15000 Katy Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 15000 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) service road about 4:05 a.m. today (March 14).

The identity, gender and age of the deceased person is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer C. Brothers reported:

A gray Volkswagen Jetta was traveling westbound on the Katy Freeway and exited at Park Ten Boulevard.  The vehicle struck a few TXDOT road signs and then a concrete pillar on the service road at the above address.  The impact caused the Volkswagen to be engulfed in flames.  Houston firefighters extinguished the fire and pronounced the driver deceased. 

A male passenger, 20, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is continuing.
