Charges have been filed against three suspects arrested in the death of a male found at 7909 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 4:40 a.m. on August 7, 2023.
One suspect, Gavin Kemani Paul, 17, is charged with capital murder in the 232nd State District Court. A booking photo of Paul is attached to this news release.
Two other suspects, both juveniles – 16 at the time of the incident – have been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on capital murder charges. Juvenile photos are not releasable.
The victim is identified as Dexter Watson, 27.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Duncan and Detective K. Collier reported:
METRO Police Department officers responded to a bus stop at the above address and found an unresponsive male. Paramedics pronounced him deceased. Investigators from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences responded to the scene and discovered an injury consistent with a gunshot or puncture wound. The male’s cause of death is pending an autopsy.
At that time, there was no known motive or suspect(s).
Further investigation identified Paul and the two juveniles as suspects in this case. All three were arrested without incident and subsequently charged for their roles.
