2-Alarm Apartment Fire in the Greater Greenspoint Area

WHAT: 2-alarm apartment fire.

WHEN: January 21, 2024, at 5:11 p.m.

WHERE: 501 Greens Rd. 77060.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $573,300 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $473,300 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental. (electrical issue of a light in a closet under a stairway)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a 2-story apartment building on fire. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. Crews worked to cut the fire off in the common attic and began to ventilate the roof when the fire started showing the attic area. They were ordered to get off the roof and additional units were requested, followed by a second alarm. Rehab was established and the Houston Police Department was requested for traffic and crowd control.

The fire was controlled and extinguished with six units completely damaged and 12 units suffering from minor damage. The American Red Cross was notified, and the property manager advised they would be assisting the residents. HFD Arson investigators were requested and determined that the fire was caused by an electrical issue of a light in a closet under a stairway. 87 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 84, 30, 50, 15, 4, 31, 34, 64, 56, 59, 58, 74, 67, 63, 6, 57, 8, Heavy Rescue 11, Rehab 17 and The Aldine Fire Department.
