Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one man and wounding of three other men at 1000 Gray Street about 5:55 p.m. on April 17.
The suspect, Drequan Watkins, 26, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th State District Court. A booking photo of Watkins is attached to this news release.
The deceased male is identified as Kevin Lee, 62. The three other victims were transported to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Brooks and J. Gardner reported:
Officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and discovered one male with multiple gunshot wounds and three other men also shot. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene. The three men were taken to hospitals.
The deceased male, later identified as Lee, was believed to be one of two shooters in the incident.
Following interviews with witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene, detectives identified a male person of interest and, on April 18, a surveillance photo of the person of interest was publicly released.
Further investigation determined the male, later identified as Watkins, was a suspect in this case. On Friday (December 1), charges were filed. Watkins was subsequently arrested by the HPD South Central Crime Suppression Team with the assistance of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and booked into the Harris County Jail.
