Investigation into Shooting Incident at 2815 Campbell Road

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed suspect by a Spring Branch Independent School District (ISD) police officer at 2815 Campbell Road about 7:20 a.m. on Thursday (November 30).

The identity of the deceased suspect is pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Spring Branch ISD officer who discharged his duty weapon was not injured in this incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Investigators O. Flores, T. Vaca, J. Kosler and V. Praxedes reported:

A Spring Branch ISD officer was alerted by school officials at Buffalo Creek Elementary School of a male (suspect) wearing all-black clothing attempting to open car doors in the school parking lot. The officer, already on scene, spotted the male matching the description and approached him. As the officer approached the suspect, the male fled on foot and carjacked a citizen at gunpoint in the 3000 block of Blalock Road. The suspect led the officer on a short vehicle pursuit, striking several vehicles and then came to a stop in the 2800 block of Campbell Road.

The suspect exited the vehicle and pointed his firearm at the officer, who was pursuing him. The suspect then carjacked a second citizen. The suspect again led the officer on a short pursuit until he drove to the back of a business at 2815 Campbell Road and came to a stop. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled into a warehouse. He was given verbal commands by the officer to drop his weapon. The suspect ignored the commands and raised his firearm at the officer. The officer discharged his duty weapon at the suspect, striking him. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the suspect was also allegedly involved in a homicide of a family member found in a residence at 2507 Mona Lee Lane immediately prior to the encounter with the Spring Branch ISD officer. Both cases are currently under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.

As is customary when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
