WHAT: 3-alarm apartment fire.
WHEN: September 21, 2023, at 1:26 p.m.
WHERE: 16826 City View Place, 77060.
INJURIES: One firefighter evaluated on scene, two deceased dogs.

DAMAGE: $1,000,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (rooftop).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find fire and smoke coming from the roof of a 2-story apartment building and began an attack. A primary search was completed, and second alarm was requested. The ceiling was pulled, and the attic was accessed for fire control. Crews switched to a defensive attack as conditions worsened at the roof level. A third alarm was requested to help rotate the firefighters through rehab until the fire was controlled just before 3 p.m. Two deceased dogs were found, and a firefighter was evaluated on scene for smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents of 16 units. CenterPoint turned the power off to the building and property management had a restoration company on site. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Crews remained on scene to insure there were no hotspots. 113 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 74, 84, 2, 15, 4, 31, 34, 64, 38, 44, 56, 58, 67, 11, 63, 6, 8, 30, 57, Rescue 42, Rehab 8 and 17 and the Aldine Fire Department.
