Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man found at 3575 Yellowstone Boulevard about noon on December 21, 2022.
The suspect, Steven Nickerson, 42, is charged with murder in the 177th State District Court. A booking photo of Nickerson, who was already in the Harris County Jail on unrelated charges, is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the death of Joseph Jones, 69.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Flora and J. Flores reported:
Mr. Jones was found unresponsive inside of a commercial building at the above address. He had been severely beaten. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased. According to the building owner, Jones had been living at the location. When the owner was unable to reach him, he went to the location and found Jones.
A preliminary investigation indicated the incident may have occurred about 10 a.m. and detectives believed that Jones’ vehicle, a silver Dodge pickup truck, was stolen by the unknown suspect(s).
Further investigation identified Nickerson as the suspect in this case and he was subsequently charged today (Sept. 19).
