A suspect charged and wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 10235 Grove Glen Drive about 6:35 a.m. on August 18 is now charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 10200 West Bellfort Boulevard about 5:45 a.m. on August 18.
The suspect, Rafael Antonio Hernandez Gonzalez, 42, is charged with capital murder in the 482nd State District Court. A February 2020 booking photo of Hernandez Gonzalez, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the deaths of Josue Geovanni Argueta Giron, 45, and Wendy Guadalupe Guzman, 21.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Detective C. Flora reported:
Mr. Argueta Giron was in the garage of his residence, loading tools into his SUV and preparing to go to work, when he was shot multiple times. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
At that time, the suspect was described only as a Hispanic male, possibly driving a dark-colored SUV.
A preliminary investigation identified Hernandez Gonzalez as the suspect in this case. Hernandez Gonzalez was Argueta Giron’s employee and they knew each other for many years. On Monday (Aug. 20), Hernandez Gonzalez was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Argueta Giron.
Subsequent investigation revealed that about one hour earlier (5:45 a.m.), Hernandez Gonzalez was at the apartment where he lived with his daughter, Ms. Guzman, at 10200 West Bellfort Boulevard, when he fatally shot Guzman as she was getting ready for work. Hernandez Gonzalez then drove to the Grove Glen location and fatally shot Argueta Giron. Hernandez Gonzalez fled the scene in his GMC Yukon, which has since been recovered.
Due to his involvement in the fatal shooting of Guzman, the charge against Hernandez Gonzalez was upgraded to capital murder (multiple) on Thursday (Aug. 24).
Hernandez Gonzalez remains at large and investigators believe he may have shaved his head to change his appearance. He is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.
