Suspect Charged, Wanted in July Shooting at 4702 Lyons Avenue

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in a shooting that injured a juvenile male and an adult male at 4702 Lyons Avenue about 5:10 a.m. on July 27.

The suspect, Eric McArthur Irvin, 42, is charged with aggravated assault of a family member, felon in possession of a weapon and two counts of deadly conduct in the 184th State District Court.  He is not in custody.  Two surveillance photos and a separate photo of Irvin are attached to this news release.

One victim, 8, underwent surgery and was released from an area hospital.  A second victim, 25, was treated and released from a hospital.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives J. De La Torre and Z. Brumley reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at a convenience store at the above address and were told a child and an adult male were injured in gunfire by an unknown suspect.

Through the ensuing investigation, detectives learned the suspect arrived at the convenience store, armed with an assault style rifle and a pistol.  At some point, the suspect discharged both firearms, causing injuries to a juvenile’s face. Paramedics transported the victim to a hospital where he underwent surgery.  Doctors advised the child is expected to make a full recovery.

Further investigation identified the suspect as Eric Irvin, the juvenile victim’s father.  Evidence indicated a stray bullet caused glass shrapnel to strike the child in the eye.  The child also suffered lacerations and powder burns.  An adult male in a nearby vehicle sustained injuries from glass shrapnel when his vehicle’s window was shattered by a bullet.

Anyone with information on Eric Irvin’s whereabouts is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or speak anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
