Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 1400 Southwest Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 1400 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 12:55 a.m. on Sunday (Aug. 13).

The male suspect, Asdenys De Armas-Perez, 40, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 262nd State District Court.  A booking photo of De Armas-Perez, with injuries he sustained in the crash, is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Officer J. Trevino reported:

The victim was changing a tire on a vehicle in the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of the freeway at the above address when he was struck by a gray Pontiac G6.  Paramedics were called and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The Pontiac’s driver, De Armas-Perez, showed signs of impairment.  He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries.  De Armas-Perez was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently released from the hospital, charged in the crash and taken to the Harris County Jail.
