WHAT: Warehouse fire.
WHEN: July 29, 2023, at 7:18 a.m.
WHERE: 2221 W. 34th St. 77018.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $230,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $120,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation (appears to be accidental at this time).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke showing from a metal warehouse and forced entry. Pallets of organic fertilizer were found smoldering in the back of the building and as crews worked to remove the fertilizer and extinguish the fire, a primary search was conducted with no one found. After removal of the smoldering materials, the fire was extinguished, and the building was ventilated with fans. The owner arrived on scene to secure the building and, although the product was deemed non-toxic, all firefighters who made entry underwent decontamination. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause of the fire. 40 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 15, 5, 31, 13, 50, 62, 38, 30, Hazmat 22 and 66.
