Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5700 Thousand Oaks Circle

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man and the assault of a woman at 5700 Thousand Oaks Circle about 12:10 a.m. on July 9.

The suspect, Denis Alexis Pineda-Ortega, 25, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault of a family member-impeding breath in the 174th State District Court.  A booking photo of Pineda-Ortega is attached to this news release.

The male shooting victim, 21, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives K. Vu and P. Ungaro reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a family violence call at an apartment complex at the above address and determined a female had been assaulted by her boyfriend.  The female, 43, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.  Officers then became aware of a man with a gunshot wound.  The man was transported to an area hospital by paramedics.

A preliminary investigation determined the man heard a woman screaming for help, exited his apartment and saw a male suspect with his hands around the woman’s neck.  The suspect made eye contact with the man, pulled out a gun and walked toward the man’s apartment.  The suspect continued to walk up the stairs and fired at least one shot, striking the man in the right hip.

Further investigation identified Pineda-Ortega as the suspect in this case and he was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.  Pineda-Ortega was arrested on July 15 by HPD North Patrol Division officers and booked into the Harris County Jail.
