Charges have been filed on a second suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 9550 Deering Drive about 2 p.m. on August 7, 2022.
The suspect, Markell Hardyway, 19, is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Markell is attached to this news release.
Another male suspect, 15, was referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a charge of murder. He was in custody for an unrelated charge.
Both are accused in the killing of Patrick Jackson, Jr., 18.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Clark and M. Nicotra reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Jackson unresponsive on a sidewalk inside the complex. He had been shot multiple times. Paramedics arrived and pronounced Jackson deceased.
Detectives learned a possible dispute had occurred between Jackson and a male suspect who shot Jackson and then fled the scene.
Further investigation identified a juvenile male as the suspect in this case. The case was presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges were accepted.
Subsequent investigation identified Hardyway as a suspect in this case. Hardyway, who was in custody in the Fort Bend County Jail on an unrelated charge, admitted to his involvement in the incident and was subsequently charged.
