The fatal shooting of a man at 5076 Griggs Road about 7 p.m. on Saturday (June 24) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased male, 29, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry, H. Martinez and N. Henderson reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call outside a business at the above address and found a male in the parking lot. He had sustained a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.
The male shooter, who was not injured, was detained at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined the shooter and his family member had left a business and were walking back to their vehicle. As they arrived at their vehicle, a black male suspect inside a white vehicle pointed a gun at them and demanded money. Fearing for his life, the shooter pulled his own weapon and fired, striking the suspect trying to rob them.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and it was determined the case would be reviewed by a grand jury.
