Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9800 Southwest Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9800 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 11:45 p.m. on Monday (March 20).

The identity of the deceased male, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Bibb reported:

Two brothers had stopped in a strip center parking lot near a store at the above address and exited their vehicle.  According to the brother, his brother then got upset due to the store being closed and threw a wooden pallet onto the service road and then onto the main lanes of the Southwest Freeway.  The male then walked into the main lanes of the freeway and was struck by a white Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling southbound on the freeway.  The driver of the Dodge did not stop to provide assistance and fled the scene.  The brother of the male then pulled his brother’s body off the freeway and onto the shoulder.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased.

Anyone with information on the identity of the wanted driver of the Dodge pickup truck or in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
