Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 10000 La Porte Freeway (State Highway 225) about 6 a.m. on Saturday (October 1).
The identity of the male victim, 76, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer E. Rubio reported:
According to a witness, a red Toyota Corolla was disabled, with hazard lights, in the main lanes of the La Porte Freeway. A white Kia optima was traveling eastbound on the freeway and struck the rear of the Corolla. The driver of the Optima did not stop to render medical assistance and fled the scene on foot, leaving the Optima behind. A short time later, a white Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the Optima, causing it to strike the Corolla.
Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the victim (driver of the Corolla) to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ford, who remained at the scene, was not injured.
The investigation is continuing.
Anyone with information on the wanted driver of the Optima is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
