Police Chief Troy Finner Statement on Two Shooting Incidents

“Sadly, we experienced acts of gun violence overnight involving young people being shot. In one incident, tragically, a 9-year-old girl was fatally shot and her mother was wounded at their family apartment at 404 Oxford Street just before 11 p.m.  The woman’s ex-boyfriend, Jeremiah Jones, 22, is now charged with capital murder.  He is wanted at this time.  I am asking the suspect to do the right thing and turn himself in to HPD. This senseless act of domestic violence hits home for me and the HPD family.  That sweet child was a student and member of our Police Activities League (PAL) program.  We ask the community to pray for this angel, her mother and her family. In another incident, three juvenile males – a 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds – were shot in an apartment complex at 1221 Redford Street about 2:15 a.m.  Thankfully, all three are expected to survive.  Our preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was not random and at least one of the teens was targeted by an unknown male in a ski mask who fled on foot.I want our citizens to know we cannot and will not tolerate violence in our city, especially involving our young people.  I ask for the community’s help in providing information on the whereabouts of Jeremiah Jones and/or information regarding the identity of the suspect in the Redford Street shooting.  Please call HPD Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS to remain anonymous.  We will not stop until we find these violent suspects.”6-14-22
