Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 6501 Chimney Rock Road about 1:05 a.m. today (March 31).
The identity of the victim, 41, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Horn and M. Arrington reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a gas station at 3410 Chimney Rock. Upon arrival they found the man sitting inside a vehicle suffering a gunshot wound to his thigh. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Further investigation determined the man had been at a business at the above address when he shot himself in the leg. After he shot himself, his cousin attempted to transport him to the hospital, but eventually pulled over at the gas station where he called 9-1-1. Officers located a gun underneath the man’s leg and preliminary investigation indicates the gunshot wound appears to have been self-inflicted.
