The fatal shooting of a male at 7404 Canal Street about 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday (March 15) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Smith and Detective M. Estep reported: A man was checking his property at the above address when he was approached and confronted by an unknown Hispanic male suspect in the driveway. The unknown suspect was armed with a knife which he held in his hand. While calling 9-1-1, the resident pulled a handgun and demanded the suspect drop the knife. The suspect charged toward the resident, at which time the resident fired at the suspect and struck him in the chest. Paramedics transported the suspect to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Evidence suggests the suspect was in the process of burglarizing the home when the resident arrived. After consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, it was determined the incident would be referred to a grand jury. JFC/JKS 3-16-22 Inc #034257022
