Apartment Fire in The Spring Branch West Area

WHAT: Apartment Fire
WHEN: January 31, 2022 at 4:51 p.m.
WHERE: 1776 Gessner, 77080
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $12 thousand in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional (cooking).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find light smoke coming from a 1-story apartment. The residents were safely outside and stated they used several fire extinguishers to put out a kitchen fire. HFD Crews found heavy charring and smoke inside the unit. They used a pump can to extinguish the remainder of the fire and removed portions of the wall and ceiling, to check for extension with none found. Firefighters ventilated the unit and the apartment maintenance manager assisted with removal of the stove and refrigerator. The resident was cooking on the stove when she left and retuned to find her kitchen on fire. Crews from Stations 5, 69 and 49 responded to this incident.
