HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant. P. Buttitta and Detectives C. Walker, N. Alvarado, J. Kosler and W. Elliott reported:
Officers began pursuing a gold, four-door Toyota, for a robbery committed earlier in the day at 9303 State Highway 6 South in Fort Bend County. Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately 20 minutes. As the suspect driver approached the intersection of Eldridge Parkway and Westheimer Road, he began to ram into other vehicles as he continued to evade officers. The suspect lost control of his vehicle, striking the median, which caused his vehicle to spin around and strike another vehicle. The Toyota jumped the median and rested in the middle of the roadway.
As officers attempted to block in his vehicle, the suspect exited the vehicle and extended his hands out in a shooting position in the direction of the officers. At that time, five officers discharged their weapons in the direction of the suspect, striking him several times. The suspect was flown by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center Hospital, where he is expected to survive his injuries.
No officers or other citizens were injured during this incident.
As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
