Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 9000 Westheimer Road about 7:20 p.m. last Friday (August 14).
The identity of the victim, 48, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson, E. Attebury and Officer S. Chettry reported:
Officers responded to a crash in the 7900 block of Westheimer Road and were advised the male driver sustained at least one gunshot wound, was unable to maintain control of his vehicle and crashed. The crime scene was located nearby, at the above address.
Prior to the shooting, a group of men on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), dirt bikes and bicycles surrounded the victim’s vehicle, kicked the vehicle and tried to open the doors. An unknown suspect, described only as a tall and skinny black male, then fired shots at the victim as he tried to drive away from the disturbance.
