Houston police are investigating the fatal crash at 7500 Ley Road that occurred about 6:35 p.m. on Monday (August 9).
The identity of the male victim, 73, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Clark and Officer C. Loring reported:
The driver of a blue Mazda CX-5 was traveling southbound on Homestead Road and attempted to make a left turn onto Ley Road when it was struck by a black, four-door Chrysler. The driver of the Chrysler, who possibly ran a red light, drove a short distance until the vehicle became disabled in the median and then fled on foot.
The backseat passenger of the Mazda was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital.
