Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 11200 Richmond Avenue that occurred about 1:10 p.m. on April 4.
Derrick Dewayne Small (b/m, 21) is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 339th State District Court. A booking photo of Small is attached to this news release.
Small is accused in the death of Brianna Navarro, 22.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Hollohazy and Detective B. Evans reported:
Ms. Navarro’s boyfriend stated he had an altercation with an unknown male at a nearby convenience store. He then drove away with Navarro as his front seat passenger. The suspect was in his vehicle when he fired shots at Navarro’s vehicle, striking her in the back.
Navarro’s boyfriend then saw Houston Fire Department paramedics at Wilcrest Drive and Richmond Avenue and pulled over for assistance. HFD paramedics pronounced Navarro deceased.
Further investigation identified Small as a suspect in this case and, on July 22, he was arrested and charged for his role in the shooting.
