Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at 11503 Southwest Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at 11503 Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) service road about 3:40 a.m. on Sunday (July 11).

The suspect, Darius Tyrese Castille, (b/m, 22), is charged with capital murder in the 180th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Marcesa L. Lewis, 41, who was transported to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

A June 2021 booking photo of Castille, who remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound, is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Persad and A. Grimes reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a gas station at the above address and were advised one male (Castille) with a gunshot wound to the chest had been transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to an area hospital.  Another male (Mr. Lewis) was found in the driver’s seat of a crashed vehicle at the west edge of the parking lot.  He had suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the abdomen.  Paramedics transported Lewis to the hospital.

Further investigation determined Castille had exited a white Chevrolet Malibu and assaulted Lewis, first by striking him in the head with a pistol and then shooting at him.  Lewis was struck by the gunfire and then fired shots back at Castille, who was also struck.  The Malibu, believed to be occupied with three unknown suspects, fled the scene.

Homicide detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office  and Castille was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.  He will be booked into the Harris County Jail upon his release from the hospital.

Anyone with information on the individuals who fled in the vehicle or in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
