Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the stabbing of a woman at 16000 Cotillion Drive about 1:50 p.m. on Saturday (January 16).

The suspect, Cristina Chavira (H/f, 23), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 208th State District Court.  She is accused in the stabbing of Kayla Elliot, 32, who was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

A booking photo of Chavira is attached to this news release.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officer H. Martinez reported:

About noon, the manager of the apartment complex at the above address noticed Chavira peering into various apartment patios.  Several residents spoke to Chavira about her suspicious behavior and she left the location.

A short time later, Chavira returned and again was seen messing with several apartment patio areas.  She was approached by a resident, Ms. Elliot.  As Elliot attempted to detain Chavira, she pulled out a knife and stabbed Elliot at least once in the chest area.  Chavira then attempted to stab Elliot in the face but swung the knife and missed.  Both women then fell to the ground.  Several residents came to Elliot’s aid and held down Chavira until police arrived.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Elliot to the hospital.  Chavira was detained at the scene and subsequently charged for her role in the incident.
