Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 12100 Almeda Road about 10:15 p.m. on Saturday (December 5).
The identity of the male victim, 61, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Phillips reported:
The driver of a black Tahoe (victim) left a parking lot and turned onto Almeda Road when he was struck by a Hyundai Veloster traveling at a high rate of speed. The Veloster caught fire and the driver of the Tahoe exited his vehicle in order to check on the driver of the Veloster. While he was out of his Tahoe, the victim was struck by a black Ford F-150 pickup truck. The driver of the Ford fled the scene without stopping to render aid. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Veloster was not found to be intoxicated and was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
The investigation is continuing.
