Houston police are investigating the shooting of a man at 8112 Howard Drive about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday (October 17).
The victim, Jose A. Bustillos, 23, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers J. Kimbrough and M. Combs reported:
Mr. Bustillos was outside a relative’s home at the above address when a dark, four-door sedan drove up in front of the house. An unknown suspect fired shots at Bustillos and others standing in the front yard area. Bustillos was struck in the lower back . The vehicle fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
According to witnesses, Bustillos then grabbed an assault rifle from a vehicle parked at the location and fired shots down the street in the direction the suspect vehicle was fleeing. Paramedics responded to the scene and transported Bustillos to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Due to Bustillos no longer being in danger and the suspect vehicle being several blocks away, Bustillos was charged with misdemeanor discharge of firearms in Harris County Criminal Court #9.
At this time, there is no known suspect(s) in the shooting.
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
