Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a crash that injured six people at 8300 Galveston Road about 11:55 p.m. on Sunday (June 4).
The suspect, Elmer Jose Sandoval (H/m, 26), has six pending charges of intoxication assault. A photo of Sandoval is not available at this time.
Three passengers in Sandoval’s vehicle, a female age 6 and two males ages 5 and 3, were transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital. Three victims were in the vehicle struck by Sandoval, the male driver age 34 and two other males ages 5 and 12. The driver was also transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, while the two children were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Conditions of the six victims are not currently available.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer F. Flynn reported:
According to a witness, the suspect, Sandoval, was driving a silver Lexus ES 300 southbound on Galveston Road. He was observed to be swerving in the roadway before crossing the centerline and striking a red Ford Expedition head-on. Both vehicles were rendered inoperable.
The victims in the Ford Expedition, along with the boys’ mother- who was not injured, were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of an older model white Cadillac arrived on the scene and suspect Sandoval, an adult female passenger, and three children got in. The driver of the Cadillac then left the scene. Sandoval and the passengers were subsequently located at Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast Hospital while officers were conducting a follow-up investigation with the driver of the Ford Expedition. Sandoval was evaluated by an HPD DWI Task Force officer and showed signs of impairment. Sandoval was subsequently arrested and charged.
The investigation is continuing.
