Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 10500 Hammerly Boulevard about 4:15 p.m. on May 31.
The identity of the male victim, 25, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer J. Baker reported:
A black Jeep Cherokee was traveling westbound on Hammerly Boulevard behind a blue Nissan pickup truck. The driver of the Cherokee attempted to pass the pickup truck and struck the side of the vehicle. The driver of the Cherokee lost control, left the roadway, struck a bicyclist and then a telephone pole on the north side of the street.
The driver of the Cherokee died at the scene. The bicyclist was transported to Greater Memorial Heights Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.
