Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 1300 Lockwood Drive about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday (March 1).
The identity of the male victim, 51, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer K. Hines reported:
The victim observed his white Ford F-250 pickup truck being stolen. He and two witnesses got into another vehicle and began to pursue the suspects. The victim caught up to the suspects at the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Market Street and approached the F-250 on the driver’s side.
The suspect (driver) began to drive off as the victim was holding on to the truck’s steering wheel. The suspect then drove south on Lockwood, made a U-turn on San Juan Street and drove north on Lockwood. In the 1300 block of Lockwood, the suspect drove off the roadway and into a cemetery. At that point, the victim fell off the truck and was run over by the suspect driver. The truck continued north on Lockwood and crashed at the intersection of the East Freeway service road. Three suspects in the F-250 fled on foot. After an extensive search, patrol officers were unable to locate the suspects.
Anyone with information on the three wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
