Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 8506 Mesa Road about 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 24).
The suspect, Ray Neal Porchia (b/m, 67), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felon in possession of a weapon in the 182nd State District Court. A booking photo of Porchia, who remains hospitalized, is not available for release at this time.
The victim, Gary Allen, 58, sustained minor shotgun pellet wounds to the chest and refused medical attention at the scene.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives C. Bowling and S. Todic reported:
Mr. Allen stated he and Porchia had an ongoing argument about money Porchia claimed Allen owed to him. Allen was standing outside the gas station at the above address when Porchia drove up and threatened him with a shotgun. Porchia then fired the weapon through his vehicle’s window, striking Allen in the chest, causing a few mild pellet injuries.
Porchia left the location, but returned about 20 minutes later. He and Allen met inside the gas station and continued to argue, which escalated in the parking lot, where Porchia grabbed a hammer and hit Allen in the head. Allen managed to punch Porchia several times, causing Porchia to drop the hammer. Porchia then attempted to flee, but was stopped and detained by patrol officers in the parking lot. The shotgun was recovered in Porchia’s vehicle and he was subsequently charged in the incident. Paramedics transported him to an area hospital in stable condition.
