Houston police are investigating the shooting of an armed male suspect by two HPD officers at 2415 Hutton Street about 5:50 p.m. last Friday (August 9).
The male, 60, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he remains in stable condition.
Officers B. Simonet and A. Huckabee, who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in this incident. Both are assigned to the Gang Division and were sworn in as officers in August 2013 and October 2012, respectively.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Senior Police Officer I. Ulloa and Officers R. Lujan, N. Arellano and J. Brown reported:
Officers Simonet and Huckabee were conducting a follow-up investigation in the northeast area of Houston when they were flagged down at a local gas station and notified about a man with a gun who had fired shots at a nearby residence. Officer Simonet immediately requested back-up and made his way toward the residence at the above address. Officer Simonet was met by responding units and observed the suspect standing on a porch and armed with a shotgun. Officers Simonet and Huckabee gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop the gun. Officers then observed the suspect turn towards them with the shotgun and, in fear of their lives, both officers discharged their weapons more than one time, striking the suspect. Officers immediately administered first aid to the suspect until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
