The Houston Health Department will offer free childhood immunizations to kick off its week-long National Health Center Week observance.
The immunizations are available to children eligible for the Texas Vaccines for Children program on August 5 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the health department’s four health centers.
A four-day health fair, Aug. 6-9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will offer attendees information about the many services offered by the health department. Featured services will include dental, WIC, family planning, nurse home visitation, HIV-STD prevention, tuberculosis control, aging, re-entry and the free Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Network (DAWN) center.
Health department staff will also provide referrals to a wide variety of human services and information about preparing for emergencies and preventing mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile and Zika viruses.
The health department health centers locations and their addresses are La Nueva Casa de Amigos, 1809 North Main; Northside Health Center, 8504 Schuller; Sharpstown Health Services, 6201 Bonhomme and Sunnyside Health Center, 4605 Wilmington.
Houston Health Department health center services include family planning, immunizations, tuberculosis diagnosis, care for sexually transmitted diseases and dental care. The four centers average 50,000 patient encounters annually, offer a discounted sliding fee schedule and and do not deny service due to inability to pay.
This year’s National Health Center Week theme is “America’s Health Centers: Rooted in Communities.”
