WHAT: 3-alarm apartment fire.
WHEN: March 6, 2025, at 1:59 p.m.
WHERE: 6525 Hillcroft Ave. 77081.
INJURIES: One firefighter injured and transported to the hospital.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental due to an unattended pot on a stove top.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene with smoke and fire coming from a 2-story apartment building. They made an attack on the fire and conducted a primary search. A second alarm was requested within 10 minutes, followed by a third alarm. One firefighter was injured and was transported to the hospital. The fire was tapped out at 3:25 p.m. and crews conducted salvage and overhaul. The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents, and CenterPoint was requested to secure the utilities. HFD Arson investigators responded to the scene determined the cause of the fire was accidental due to an unattended pot on a stove top. 148 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 5, 28, 73, 16, 2, 15, 21, 46, 59, 68, 83, 2, 3, 10, 33, 37, 38, 51, 60, 69, 76, 6, 9, 34, 30, Rescue 10, and Heavy Rescue 11.
HFD reminds everyone when using the stove to use a moderate cooking temperature, don’t overfill the container, and if you must leave the kitchen, turn the burner off. Unattended cooking is the primary cause of kitchen fires.
