2nd UPDATE: Suspects Arrested, Charged in May Fatal Shooting at 6802 Cullen Boulevard

Charges have been filed against seven suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6802 Cullen Boulevard about 4:20 a.m. on May 1 and two other shooting incidents.

Cameron Dewayne Kennon, 21, is charged with murder. Parnell Washington, 18, is charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity. Isaac Zarate, 23, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity.

Four other suspects, Nicholas Jackson, 21, Jyelle Franklin, 17, Matthew Hailu Mekonnen, 18 and Jacolby Pendleton, 30, are each charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized criminal activity.

They are all charged in the 184th State District Court. Booking photos of all seven suspects are attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Eric Johnson, 34.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants R. Watson and M. Burrow reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at a convenience store at the above address and found the victim , later identified as Mr. Johnson, unresponsive in the parking lot. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Paramedics transported him to an area hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.

A preliminary investigation identified a suspect vehicle, described only as a silver hatchback, possibly a Toyota Rav4.  A surveillance photo of the vehicle was released to the public on May 14.

Further investigation determined the fatal shooting of Johnson was directly related to shootings at 3839 South Loop East on May 2, that injured a male, 26, and female, 29, and in the 6800 block of Cullen Boulevard on May 3, that injured three males, 27, 20, and 22, and a female, 30.

Subsequent investigations identified the seven individuals arrested as suspects in these incidents.

Kennon, Washington, Franklin and Pendleton were arrested on May 29 by the HPD Southeast Division Crime Suppression Team (CST) without incident.

Kennon and Washington are charged for the fatal shooting of Johnson. Washington is also charged for his involvement in the May 2 and May 3 shootings.

Franklin and Pendleton are charged for their involvement in the May 3 shooting.

Jackson was arrested on May 30 by HPD Southeast CST officers without incident and he is charged for his involvement in the May 3 incident.

Mekonnen was arrested by HPD Southeast CST officers on Monday (June 3) and charged for his involvement in the May 3 incident.

Zarate was arrested on May 9 on an unrelated charge and subsequently charged for his involvement in the May 2 and May 3 incidents.
