Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8600 Sterlingshire Street about 1:25 p.m. on Feb. 6.
The suspect, Geovanni Watkins (b/m, 22), is charged with murder in the 228th State District Court. He is accused for his role in the death of Derrick D. Harvey, Jr., 22.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective K. Heaverlo reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call to a parking lot at the above address and learned Mr. Harvey had been shot several times. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing a skinny black male running from the scene and getting into a burnt orange Mitsubishi Eclipse that fled westbound from the location.
On February 20, homicide investigators released surveillance video, which can be viewed on the HPD YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/JDtpYVwgaLY, of a person of interest wanted for questioning in the incident.
Further investigation identified Watkins as the suspect in this case. He was taken into custody by HPD South Gessner Patrol Division officers on Wednesday (March 31) without incident. At the time of his arrest, Watkins was out on bond for a June 2018 aggravated robbery charge in Harris County and had a Walker County warrant for unlawful carrying of a weapon. Watkins was questioned and subsequently charged for his role in Harvey’s death.
