A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 6013 Schroeder Road about 3 a.m. on October 8, 2021 is in custody.
The suspect, Guy Cornell Jones, 30, is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court. A booking photo of Jones is attached to this news release.
Jones is accused in the killing of Jason Smith-Jones, 26.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Perez and J. Escobar reported:
HPD officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found Mr. Smith-Jones suffering from a gunshot wound. Smith-Jones was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. Smith-Jones’ mother stated she was asleep when she heard a gunshot. She then went toward the kitchen and and saw her son on the floor.
A witness stated a black male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and in his late 20s, was seen fleeing with a gun in his hand. Further investigation identified Jones as the suspect in this case and a warrant for his arrest was issued the following day.On Wednesday (Jan. 4), members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force located and arrested Jones without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
