One suspect, Mertroy Harris (b/m, 27), is arrested and charged with murder and felony deadly conduct in the 230th State District Court for his role in the killing of Sam Johnson, 53, of Houston.

The second victim, Walter Fields, 22, of the above address, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Turner and Officer J. Nguyen reported:

Four armed suspects were in a blue-colored Mazda at the above address when they exited the vehicle.  One suspect ran toward Cullen Boulevard.  The three others ran up to a dark green Kia Sedona and carjacked a woman and her 11-month-old niece at gunpoint.  One of the suspects fired multiple shots and struck both victims.  Neither the woman nor the child was harmed.

Further investigation identified Harris as the suspect who ran toward Cullen Boulevard and he was taken into custody on Tuesday (October 17) without incident.  The three other suspects remain at-large.

Anyone with information on the identities of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
