Houston police investigators are no longer searching for a vehicle originally believed to be involved in a fatal crash that occurred at 11400 South Sam Houston Parkway East (Beltway 8) service road about 7:10 p.m. on January 31.
The victim is identified as Francisco Medillin, 44.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officers A. Gomez and R. Guzman reported:
Officers were initially informed that vehicles were stopped at the above address at a red light at the intersection with Sabo Road, when an 18-wheeler crashed into multiple vehicles.
Further investigation and surveillance videos determined a black Lexus RX350, traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into the rear of a silver Chevrolet Cavalier. The impact caused the Chevrolet to flip and came to a rest on the sidewalk.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Cavalier, Mr. Medillin, deceased. A male juvenile passenger, 9, in the Cavalier was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The female driver of the Lexus was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The impact of the collision caused minor damages to other vehicles. No one else was seriously injured
The crash investigation is ongoing.
