2-Alarm Warehouse Fire in The Central Southwest Area

WHAT: 2-alarm warehouse fire.

WHEN: July 27, 2023, at 10:52 a.m.

WHERE: 2910 Holmes Rd. 77051.

INJURIES: One firefighter was injured and transported to the hospital.

PROPERTY SAVED: $165,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $3,000,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation (at this time, appears to have been accidental).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find heavy smoke and fire coming from an automotive recycling center warehouse. The warehouse was filled with engines and tires about 10 to 15 feet high. They set up multiple supply lines and aerial operations to extinguish the fire. A nearby exposure was also protected. This was a second alarm fire and crews rotated through rehab. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for a back injury. A foam blanket was placed over the large spill area by HFD Hazmat who also monitored the air quality. Gross decontamination was initiated for the responding crews and equipment. Firefighters with contaminated gear or equipment were instructed to report to logistics to have it replaced. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. 118 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 7, 55, 16, 23, 6, 8, 26, 46, 21, 25, 35, 37, 47, 55, 33, 36, 40, 15, 24, 82, Hazmat 22, Heavy Rescue 11, Rehab 8 and 7.
