WHAT: 2-Alarm Commercial Building Fire
WHEN: January 3, 2021 at 12:53 a.m.
WHERE: 1498 Riggs Rd. 77002
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $750 thousand in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a 2-story commercial building totally involved on fire and began a defensive attack. A second alarm was requested. HPD traffic control was notified to assist with citizens who were entering a nearby exposure. Centerpoint arrived on scene and ensured there was no power to the building. Crews extinguished the fire and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. The structure, which appeared have previously burned and was vacant, was a total loss with collapses of the roof and walls. Firefighters from Stations 58, 31, 30, 15, 34, 9, 6, 8, 12, 67, 19, Rescue 42 and Rehab responded to this incident.
