2-Alarm Apartment Fire in The Westchase Area

WHAT: 2-Alarm Apartment Fire.

WHEN: September 15, 2022 at 11:06 p.m.

WHERE: 3500 Woodchase Dr. 77042.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: Approximately 30 units damaged.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the fire as accidental, due carelessly discarded smoking materials.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke coming from the third floor of an apartment building. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary and secondary search. The apartment was ventilated, and a second alarm was requested for additional manpower. The fire originated on a third-floor balcony and spread to the attic. Crews extinguished with approximately 30 units suffering varying degrees of water, smoke and/ or fire damage. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents. HFD Arson investigators responded to the scene and determined that the cause was accidental, due carelessly discarded smoking materials on a third-floor balcony of the apartment complex. Firefighters from Stations 28, 78, 10, 49, 60, 69, 37, 24, 83, 51 and Rehab 17 responded to this incident.
